GM and Chevy hits another bull's eye in 2010 with the introduction of the Chevy Volt Unplugged. The years of calling an electric car a concept are over! The electric auto has arrived, and what a great car it is. Global warming and outrageous gas prices made the car industry cease talking about building a car like this and actually build a car that is both electric and saves on gas. You use less energy to charge the car than you do to run your refrigerator, central air conditioner or your home heating system. The Chevy Volt only uses 2520KWH of electricity while your refrigerator uses 2610 KWH.
I had the good fortune to drive the Chevy Volt on November 18thwhile it was on tour in Chicago. I was amazed at how much torque it has, how quiet it is and how much zip it has. You can be standing next to the car and not hear the engine idling. I was also impressed that when the car is on but not moving, it doesn't use any electricity; instead it uses what the Chevy team calls regen power recovery.
