This old Dodge Brothers truck was a patrol, the electric car below? I bet strictly publicity event use. What possible emergancy roadside service could it possibly be that your smart cell phone can't do better?

Resurrected in 2008, the Dodge Challenger blesses streets with its balanced fusion of strength, panache and deftness. As a bulky five-seater coupe, it offers three trims: an unappreciated SE; popular and powerful R/T; and an over-the-top, pure blazing speed SRT8.

SE
Powered by an apathetic 3.5-liter, 250-hp V6 leaking out 250 lb-feet of torque, coupled with a five-speed automatic gear box, the $23,000 SE is the wanna-be muscle car of the trio. The feature roster is sufficient but unimpressive. Besides regular amenities, the SE has an eight-way power driver seat, a 60/40-split folding rear seat and a four-speaker CD/MP3/audio jack sound system.
R/T
Labeled as the best buy of the three, the $31,000 R/T is powered by a whopping 5.7-liter, 376-hp V8, capable of 400 lb-feet of torque. A five-speed automatic transmission is standard, while a six-speed manual is optional. The R/T offers sport-tuned suspension and steering, exterior elements like automatic headlamps and foglights, and leather-wrapped interior bric-a-brac.

The Dodge Challenger debuted in 1970 as the twin of the renowned Plymouth Barracuda. It was the epitome of the pony car aesthetic: long hood, short rear deck, blunt-nosed grill and aggressive hood scoops. Owners could choose from an astonishing cornucopia of options, colors, trims, fobs, and nine engines, the most famous of which was the 426-hp Hemi. In its first year, 84,032 Challengers were sold. The second year, due to loss of interest in muscle cars and increased emission regulations, only 29,883 Challengers were produced. In subsequent years, the one-hit wonder faded from memory, and the apathetic 1978-1982 Japanese Dodge Challenger merely nailed the coffin shut.

The 2010 Mopar Challenger arrived last summer to a hero’s welcome. Chrysler only offered 500 copies of the special edition Mopar model, which carried a base sticker price of $38,000. With the all-new 2011 Charger now trolling Dodge dealer parking lots all around the country, you can probably guess which vehicle is next to feature a Mopar makeover.

Fortunately, Chrysler doesn’t plan to disappoint, as the automaker has released the first sketch of its forthcoming special edition model. The rendering reveals a black and blue color scheme similar to that of the Challenger, though the side stripes have been replaced with a stripe that stretches across the hood, roof and trunk. As an added bonus, the Mopar team appears to have gotten rid of the bulbous and unnecessary hood scoop for the 2011 Charger; a move we support 1,000 percent.

Some 2010 Mopar Challenger owners may have been disappointed that Chrysler’s mod team opted for the 5.7 liter V8 as the engine of choice instead of the more powerful 6.1 liter V8. Team Pentastar hasn’t yet announced which engine the Mopar Charger will receive, though the automaker did promise that engineers have “added even more performance.” We’re hoping that “more performance” translates into the new 470-horsepower, 6.4 liter V8, but we’ll have to wait until later this month when Chrysler officially reveals the hot new sedan at an as-yet undisclosed event (New York Auto Show?).

Dodge is giving the Grand Caravan an extra dose of mojo for 2011. The result is the Dodge Grand Caravan R/T - a minivan that delivers the driving dynamics of a performance sedan and a little bit of attitude. At the heart of the 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan R/T is an all-new powertrain. The 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan R/T model has a starting U.S. MSRP of $30,595 (excluding $835 destination).



The R/T model is available in eight paint colors: Blackberry Pearl Coat, Bright Silver Metallic Clear Coat, Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl Coat, Deep Cherry Red Crystal Pearl Coat, Deep Water Blue Pearl Coat, Stone White Clear Coat, Mango Tango Pearl Coat and Dark Charcoal Pearl Coat.

True Spirit: The True Spirit was first produced in 1976 with about 200-250 being produced that year. They were a "test the waters" type of vehicle, along with the Warlock (but didn't do as well as the much more popular Warlock), so therefore True Spirits were only sold in the Southern California and Arizona markets. The last year of production was 1978. According to Skip Gibbs book “Truckin thru the 70’s” less than 250 True Spirits were built in 1976 and those, along with the original batch of Warlocks were sent to dealers in San Francisco and LA to test market reaction to a factory custom truck. They were produced in both Utiline Shortbed and Sweptline Shortbed body styles and also in 2WD and 4WD.
